Through the Lens
My name is Nick Batchelder and I am a working Photographer and Videographer in Upstate New York. I am constantly looking for new and better ways to create, and I utilize a variety of mediums to enhance a story. What I enjoy most of all is working on a creative team and gaining new perspectives on an idea. Let’s get to work!
Artist’s Statement
As an artist, I always hope to be able to create a narrative around every piece I make. What drives my work is creating a space that contains visual as well as emotional intrigue. I love working with compositions, and in the majority of my photographic works I tend to utilize basic compositional rules as jumping off points for unique and interesting compositions. Aesthetically, I like to view my work as a blank canvas of sorts, using empty space and the lack of subjects to allow the viewer to absorb the space that I am photographing through their own lens, rather than through the subjects. Even in my videography, creating a unique depth to every frame is the connective tissue of everything I make, filling the foreground and background accordingly. Thematically, I find myself inserting parts of myself into the characters I create. Making these characters relatable to myself and to others is a main focus of my work.

Nick Batchelder is an aspiring filmmaker and current photographer who studied at Hudson Valley Community College in the Digital Media program. He is currently working out of Upstate New York. Nick’s primary focus is building a consistent visual style in his photography and videography. He primarily works with 35mm film in his photography, and is well versed with digital camera technology. He enjoys experimenting with his technique to produce a different visual style. He is working towards creating images and videos that showcase his compositional skills behind the camera, and how a narrative can be reinforced by good camera work and cinematography. Nick has been working as a Production Assistant on professional shoots in the area since early 2021, and is currently working with the knowledge he has gained from these to make the process of creating films much more seamless and professional. Currently, Nick's focus as an artist is combining a variety of artistic mediums to create and strengthen a narrative. He aims to perfect his craft and improve his skills across an artistic spectrum.
